On recent visits to Florida I’ve been staying at the Residence Inn hotel at Daytona Beach Airport. As part of the Marriott chain of hotels it offers wonderful comfort and a great location. Yet is the Residence Inn one of the best hotels in Daytona Beach?
The Residence Inn is almost walking distance from the airport terminal but not quite. A short 2 minute drive in my hire car allowed me to find my resting place before fully leaving the airport grounds.
Not only is it effectively an airport hotel it is one of a selection of hotels near Daytona Speedway. However it is a considerable drive away from the seafront.
The building looks immaculate outside and in. Whilst the building is now a few years old there isn’t any sign of wear which is just typical of Marriott.
The Lobby was bright and clean and also contained a little shop area to accommodate any late night munchies.
There is a communal dining area although the Residence Inn doesn’t offer formal dining facilities.
The Residence Inn Breakfast and more is included in your price
There is a complimentary breakfast each day including the usual mix of cereal, hot foods, yoghurts, fruit and baked items.
During the week, Tuesday – Thursday there are what are known as Manager Specials. For an hour and a half some complimentary food/snacks are laid on plus complimentary alcohol in terms of beer or wine.
This is for residents only.
From what I could tell, one night included pizza, another burgers and hot dogs. So whilst far from healthy, all the diners appeared content.
Stay healthy at the Residence Inn Airport hotel
For the health conscious the Residence Inn offers a small exercise room and an outdoor pool. The pool was supposed to be open from 6am yet when I went for breakfast the padlock was still on the gate. I never quite found out why.
Is this a hotel room or a condo in Daytona Beach?
The rooms of the Residence Inn hotel at Daytona Beach airport are what made this place really appeal to me. It is a full on mini apartment! Would a self contained apartment qualify as part of the best hotels in Daytona Beach?
Not only do you have a nice, typical Marriott double bed, with side lamps and clock radio.
The walk through bathroom and wash area with wardrobes gives a great sense of space.
Then there is the living area. Offering a lounge sofa, dining area and a work desk.
Of course no dining area can be complete without a kitchen. So the Residence Inn hotel offer a kitchenette style area.
Complete with microwave, hob and a fridge freezer. Appropriate kitchen utensils of pots and pans, plates, glasses etc completed the set up.
I call this place a kitchenette rather than a full kitchen.
The Residence Inn at Daytona Beach airport didn’t have an oven, or a laundry area. There was a full size dishwasher which I can promise you got some use.
A quick trip to a nearby K-Mart, Target or Wal-Mart and I was all set to self cater. It would be perfect to use my travelling cook book, perfect for backpackers and those staying in a place like this.

The studio style rooms at the Residence Inn near the airport of Daytona Beach are undoubted quality living for time on the road. I love the comfort of the place and it really does feel like my own little home.
So what did I not like at the Residence Inn hotel at Daytona Beach airport?
My trip was not complete without a complaint.
The one thing that frustrated me during this visit was the hotel internet connection.
As a budget hotel the Residence Inn hotel offer complimentary internet for all guests plus an internet wifi in lobby.
There is also an option to go for a premium, faster internet service for around $5 a day. As a Marriott Gold Rewards card holder I’m entitled to use the premium service without charge.
Naturally I wanted to take advantage of this. Assuming the bulk of people will be on the free service I would not be fighting for bandwidth with as many people.
Sadly, neither the premium or the normal service were quick or reliable. At times they operated okay then at peak times, early evening they were incredibly slow.
I even ran a speedtest at one point and received a result of 3 mbps! I can get over 100 mbps at home! The score of 3 was not typical but probably the worst I experienced.
I was using my brand new Macbook Air computer. I’d only had it a week and knew it was lightning fast so my computer was not issue.
I reported my dissatisfaction to Reception. They apologised for the slow internet and said that someone would look into it. I’m sure someone did, unfortunately the service never seemed to improve during my stay.
We’ve come a long way from the days of expensive and slow dial up internet. However, with so many people streaming and downloading films (not me may I add) then hotel internet services just can’t seem to cope anymore.
Anyway, rant over.
It’s away from the beach yet is it still one of the best hotels in Daytona Beach?
I love the studio apartment feel to the Residence Inn hotels. They are very comfortable and spacious. I think if you unpack you should be careful. With the size of the studio you may not find all your stuff when you leave!
It was a great shame about the internet service. Admittedly I was there during Biketoberfest so the place was busy. I guess with active movie streamers on their devices.
The location being so far away from the beach may distract some, yet this is reflected in a more reasonable price for the night. In fact the competition of the best hotels in Daytona Beach has to be weighted by location. This hotel is close to the airport, the Daytona International Speedway track and for shoppers the Volusia Mall Daytona Beach.
All three are literally walking distance.
I hope the internet service improves because I’d like to use the Residence Inn hotel at Daytona Beach airport again sometime.
