It’s no secret that I love the range of Marriott hotels. So when the opportunity comes up to stay at one I’m not going to pass on it lightly. The most recent trip to PA saw me stay in the Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh at Settlers Ridge hotel.
Why I chose Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh at Settlers Ridge
On earlier trips to Pittsburgh I’d stayed at the nearby Springhill Suites on Robinson which can be found at 239 Summit Park Drive. Whilst I love the Springhill Suites brand of Marriott hotels I found this one too busy. It was always noisy, kids running around all the time. Overcrowded at the free breakfast, people stood talking in the corridor for maybe half an hour or more. The place is very comfortable but the popularity took away from it being a place of refuge and relaxation.
Enter the Courtyard brand hotel. Both of these are branded as “airport” hotels and offer a complimentary shuttle bus service on request.
What does Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh have to offer?
As a brand the Courtyard is classier, slightly more pricey but you also get less inclusive items for your money.
For a start it is not a suite hotel. Your room is reasonable in size for a hotel bedroom with a nice en-suite and walk-in shower.
There is a work desk, well actually 2 desks as you can slide one out. Complimentary wifi internet, a flat screen TV with 56 channels (you get around double that number with Springhill Suites), air conditioning and a comfy sofa.
The Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh at Settlers Ridge also provided an alarm clock radio in the room however it was not an iPod docking station which is a shame. There was an auxiliary lead though so you could connect an iPod or music player.
Sadly there is no complimentary breakfast or coffee in the lobby. You tend to find these with Springhill Suites. I did receive 4 portions of coffee to make in my room, that is apart from the day the cleaner forgot to replace the coffee and I had to call housekeeping for replacements.
The cleaner also once didn’t empty my bin. Maybe I was just unfortunate with the room cleaner?
The location of the Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh on 5100 Campbells Run Road is ideal if you wish to gain access to Settlers Ridge. This is literally located across the road and is a retail area with restaurants, bars, a cinema and a large supermarket. No problems going out for somewhere to eat.
The Courtyard Hotel by Marriott at Settlers Ridge also offered a small range of food to order from the bar/restaurant area. The place was never packed out but I really liked the feature in the dinning area where you had booths with your own TV set.
Sadly there were no microwaves in the room so no in-room dining if you are short on time.
Like most hotels now the Marriott’s hotel on Campbells Run Road had what is labelled a Business Centre. Effectively a desk with a few computers for internet connection and a printer. The printer service was free which helped me. I was planning a sight seeing tour in the city so was able to print out some guides before going.
The swimming pool at the Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh was pretty much similar to the one at Springhill Suites. Fair but not significant in size and often filled to the brim with kids during the weekend. However during the week it was much quieter so more accessible for adults to have a private, undisturbed dip.
An exercise room was located next to the pool and contained a limited range of modern equipment.
Access to the hotel was sometimes a little bit of a challenge. The Courtyard Marriott hotel at Pittsburgh Settlers Ridge is positioned on a dual carriageway. However you can only access the car park entrance from one side. I often had to drive up to Settlers Ridge to perform a U-Turn so I could approach the entrance from the correct side.
If you are interested in trying out the Marriott brand (Springhill Suites, Courtyard or any other) remember their best rate is always guaranteed from their website.

Would you stay at the Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh?
Overall the Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh at Settlers Ridge is of typical Marriott high quality with well maintained décor. Rooms are reasonable in size and facilities are high quality. I do miss the microwaves in rooms and the space you get from the Springhill Suites. However this is certainly a quieter hotel which means I can feel more relaxed.
